Melinda and Bill Gates also thought about times when there would not be enough food that inspired stockpiling food in their basement.

In one of the interviews, Melinda said:

”What if there wasn’t clean water? What if there wasn’t enough food? Where might we go? What might we do as a family?” So, I think we should leave those preparations for ourselves.”

“We had prepared and had some food in the basement in case needed, and now we’re all in the same situation,” she added.

However, she revealed further that they could not prepare with a vaccine or drug as there are no tools for COVID-19, acknowledging it is a disease we are all in together.

Bill Gates Warned about a Looming Pandemic in 2010

After the 2009 H1N1 outbreak, Bill Gates in a blog post warned about a looming pandemic.

In the blog post, Bill Gates highlighted that the world was lucky the outbreak was not worse. He said this saying that the world was entirely unprepared for it.

He further added:

“Hopefully this outbreak(H1N1) will serve as a wakeup call to get us to invest in better capabilities because more epidemics will come in the decades ahead, and there is no guarantee we will be lucky next time.”

Afterward, in 2018, Bill affirmed the world is still not prepared for such an event that should concern us all.

“The world needs to prepare for pandemics in the same serious way it prepares for war,” he said.

The 2009 H1N1 Pandemic

Concerning the current COVID-19 pandemic, Bill has forewarned about it urging the world to prepare.

In June 2009, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared H1N1 a pandemic before declaring the pandemic over 14 months after. The then-novel H1N1 virus spread worldwide and caused 18,500 laboratory-confirmed deaths with an estimated 151,700 to 575,400 deaths total by August of 2010.

However, Bill revealed that since he was a kid, he has been preparing for war. Growing up during the Cold War, his family had a barrel in their basement filled with cans of food and water as they worried most about nuclear attacks.
