Mark Cuban Loves Dogecoin
The Dallas Mavericks – a basketball team co-owned by Cuban – announced last March that it would be accepting Dogecoin payments for tickets and related team merchandise, making it one of the first sports organizations to give crypto a thumbs up. It was also one of the first teams to accept bitcoin years before, so it should come as no surprise – given Cuban’s sudden bullish attitude towards crypto – that Doge would be added to the mix.
Cuban is working hard to push the Dogecoin agenda given that he is currently offering “special pricing” for anyone willing to take a chance and pay for Mavericks tickets with Doge. In a statement, Cuban said that Dogecoin is a fantastic “medium of exchange,” and that it is far more unique when compared with its altcoin cousins for this reason.
He said:
It’s a medium that can be used for the acquisition of goods and services. The community for Doge is the strongest when it comes to using it as a medium of exchange.
Dogecoin is one of the most interesting crypto cases out there given that it was never meant to be taken seriously. As a meme currency, Dogecoin was initially created as a joke, but ultimately became one of the largest and most popular digital currencies around. Just a few months ago, the currency climbed up the financial ladder to become the fourth largest cryptocurrency in the world.
Last April, Cuban appeared on The Ellen Show to talk about Dogecoin. He stated:
Ethereum is a digital version of currency, and then you got Dogecoin, which is just fun, but the weird part about it [is that] it went from being a cryptocurrency joke to now becoming something that’s becoming a digital currency.
By contrast, he also shared his views on bitcoin, claiming that while it probably could never work as a currency, it was a “digital version of gold” and thus worked as a hedge tool or as a strong means of keeping one’s wealth safe and sturdy during times of economic strife.
It’s a Fun Currency
Elon Musk, taking notice of Cuban’s words and praises towards Dogecoin, was quick to chime in with his two cents, later writing on Twitter:
I’ve been saying this for a while.
In the past, Cuban has stated that while he is bullish on Dogecoin, it is not the best investment. Nevertheless, he has had a lot of fun with it given that it has allowed him and his 11-year-old son to invest in something together. Aside from Doge, Cuban has also stated he owns Ethereum and bitcoin.
