Apex Legends New Character Crypto
In reality, the Tweet is a smart promotional feat on the part of EA's marketing team who've clearly been keeping this one in reserve for some time. Crypto is the name of the latest character to join the ranks of EA's battle royale shooter Apex Legends. Crypto joins the game when Season 3 kicks off on Oct. 1.
Crypto is a sleek techie, a wizard with gadgets who deploys drones to do his bidding for him on the battlefield. With the character, developer Respawn Entertainment is taping into the futuristic hacker allure that is synonymous with cryptocurrency in some circles.
EA Knows Exactly What It's Doing
EA is clearly aware that penning such a controversial tweet would cause a stir, and it appears to be working with countless onlookers – unaware of the latest Apex Legends association – struggling to decipher the publisher's sudden praise of crypto.
Many feared a group of crypto-hackers had taken over EA's Twitter handle or the tweet was the work of a joker over at EA HQ.
As sure as the tide, the move also drew countless bogus crypto-focused Twitter accounts who took to the tweet like vultures to carrion.
The Tweet was also perfect ammunition for some to come out in droves and slate EA for its less than stellar recent track record and controversial monetization practices.
As all the fuss and bother subsides, all that's left to be said is well played EA, well played.
