This helps to draw global attention and to highlight some of the groundbreaking features that everybody has been waiting for. This time, Samsung Galaxy S20+ will offer a more powerful display, a better battery, fast charging, huge amounts of RAM and possibly the most unexpected, but at the same time, the most expected – they’re getting rid of the headphone jack.
Since last year Samsung removed the headphone jack on their Note 10, many speculations arose believing that this is also going to be the case of the upcoming S20. The supposed leaks of the new S20 reveal that it won’t have a headphone jack. Instead, it will offer a USB-C and Bluetooth audio.
But now let’s look at what the smartphone will have rather than at what it won’t have.
Samsung Galaxy S20+ will feature a 3200 x 1440 pixel display which will be slightly taller than previous models. Similar to Note 10, it will have a centered hole-punch camera. The display will have a 20:9 aspect ratio. Samsung has claimed that it will offer a super-fast 120Hz refresh rate. That will help with the animations and responsiveness of the screen. However, it won’t be that simple – users will only be able to use it with the FHD+ resolution. The higher-res WQHD+ setting will only work at 60Hz, at least for now.
Again, similar to the previous Samsung S10 model, the leak confirms that the S20 will be still using an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor. Other companies use optical sensors and this is one of the things that Samsung fans are particularly not happy with. On the S10 people claimed that the responsiveness of the fingerprint scanner was slow. They even raised concerns about the security of the fingerprint sensor. Apparently, certain “gel cover” screen protectors could confuse the ultrasonic sensor. And if you were registering a fingerprint while the cover was applied, then the phone could start unlocking itself for anyone’s fingerprint.
However, the company, developing these scanners and sensors, claims that most of the security problems are addressed. They claim that they have a new generation scanner, but it’s not clear whether it will be a part of the new S20.
Additionally, the S20 will have a gigantic RAM – a whole 12gb of it. I mean, my laptop has way less than that.
Also, it will feature a 4,500mAh battery which, as the leaks claim, will charge to 100% within 70 minutes.
Moreover, this has become a rising concern with audio purists. Apparently, there are not many smartphones out there that offer a standard headphone jack. LG and Asus are the last companies “out there” that offer “old-fashioned” headphone jacks on their phones.
