The latest data on the NFT marketplace OpenSea revealed that MoonPay acquired 180 ETH (approximately $564k) ten days ago, then transferred to the singer’s wallet on March 23rd.
Despite high-profile artists increasingly tapping the world of NFTs, many fans on Madonna’s Instagram post were not happy. Some called it a disappointing move, while a few asked the singer to delete the post. Another user complained,
“Madonna. I’ve always looked up to you, but this is very disappointing.”
The pop star’s tryst with the cryptocurrency industry dates back to 2018 when she partnered with Brad Garlinghouse-led blockchain company Ripple to raise funds for orphans in Miami.
Celebs in BAYC
With the latest development, the singer joins the growing list of celebrities who have grabbed an ape of one of the most prominent NFT collections. Canadian musician Justin Bieber, for one, appears to have an appetite for Bored Ape NFTs as he made two purchases in a span of a few weeks – the latest one being $470k worth of ETH. Earlier, he bought a Bored Ape NFT for a whopping $1.3 million (500 ETH).
Marshall Mathers, better known as Eminem, also joined in the craze by allocating 123.45 ETH ($462,000) his first Bored Ape NFT #9055.
