Vitalik Buterin Taken Under Aim
Vitalik Buterin is a well-known figure within the community as the co-founder of the second-largest cryptocurrency by market cap Ethereum.
However, a few influential cryptocurrency proponents disagree with his recent ideas and publicly criticized him on social media.
One of the attacks came from BitTorrent’s former creator – Bram Cohen. He talked about Vitalik’s general views on the state of the technology around cryptocurrencies.
He refers to one of the proposed solutions for handling the scalability issues Ethereum currently faces, namely – Sharding.
“What Ethereum’s proposing for sharding further breaks this by essentially requiring miners to have all the shards, which is… not sharding. It’s just further redefining “full node” to mean less than it did before.”
Calving Ayre, another well-known persona in the field, also attacked Buterin, challenging his overall knowledge of blockchain and economics, saying that he has “no clue” in this regard.
And if that wasn’t enough for the recent bashing session, the popular cryptocurrency podcaster Peter McCormack, said that “Ethereum is vapourware nonsense.”
Ethereum Co-Founder’s Reaction
Famous and influential people often experience similar attacks, especially on social media.
Vitalik also noted that he had been a target before as well, but this time it may be a record.
I got insulted by *two* major cryptocurrency figures today! People say fun things about me all the time, but I do think this is a bit of a record.https://t.co/pas4jLkPLkhttps://t.co/xw6fXXIla4

Vitalik Buterin is, by all means, one of the most influential people in the industry. Not only is he the co-founder of the second-largest project, but he’s also been a part of serious developments in the field and has been working towards its overall improvement.
Naturally, with this kind of attention, there’s always going to be criticism. It’s questionable whether Buterin’s reaction to call these out was appropriate or if it would have been better to let them slide. This is what the general sentiment of his supporters seems to be. However, it’s clear that he continues to have his fair share of serious like-minded people who even called him the “Elon Musk of blockchain.”
