Qiang will be based in Singapore and help expand the goals and protocols of bitcoin SV (BSV), which stands for Bitcoin Satoshi Vision. The currency has only been around for 1.5 years, yet it’s been a major focal point of controversy since it first emerged on the scene.

Known as the little brother of bitcoin cash (BCH), which itself was the result of a bitcoin fork, BSV first came about in late 2018 following a BCH hard fork. The currency was dubbed by some members of the crypto community – like Australian bitcoin developer Craig Wright – to be truer to Satoshi Nakamoto’s vision of what bitcoin could (and should) be.

However, others – like Roger Ver, who at press time has virtually rescinded his title of “Bitcoin Jesus” and turned all his attention to BCH – disagreed. Ver claimed that bitcoin cash was as close as people would get to Satoshi’s original desires and goals for bitcoin, and that nothing could ever knock it from its place. Many industry leaders fought over BSV’s status.

However, the controversy didn’t end there. The currency is widely blamed for the massive drop that occurred in bitcoin’s turf at around Thanksgiving of 2018. It was during that time that the world’s leading cryptocurrency by market cap fell into the mid-$3,000 range, the lowest it had been in nearly two years.

Prior, the currency had spent most of the last five months trading in the low to mid-$6,000 range, but a fall to about $3,500 meant that bitcoin had lost more than 70 percent since its all-time high in December of 2017.

Nevertheless, many continue to be advocates for BSV, and Qiang is the currency’s latest recruit. Discussing her role with the Bitcoin Association, she explained:

Stability, security and scalability are the core characteristics that enterprises and entrepreneurs seek in underlying infrastructure. Bitcoin SV is the only such protocol and has the capacity to become the technical fabric of all global economic activity. I am delighted to join the Bitcoin Association to support the realization of bitcoin’s original purpose.

Prior to her current role, Qiang was a founding member of Relay X, a bitcoin SV wallet platform that enabled crypto-to-fiat payments. She also helped found Float SV, a bitcoin SV-based crypto exchange.

She Brings a Lot to the Table

Jimmy Nguyen, the founding president of the Association, said in a statement:

Bitcoin SV is the blockchain for business, so we are building a global organization with true professionals who understand what enterprises, institutional users and developers need. Ella has a terrific combination of real financial world experience, bitcoin knowledge, an extensive contact network, bilingual English and Mandarin skills, and passion for the Satoshi vision.
