Another Purchase on the Dark Web via Bitcoin

A recent example of using the primary cryptocurrency as a payment option comes from Missouri, where a man tried to buy a deadly chemical weapon on the dark web.

According to federal authorities, 46-year old Jason Siesser attempted to buy the dangerous item on two occasions in the summer of 2018. He gave the seller a shipping address in the name of a juvenile, the Justice Department said.

On July 4th that year, Siesser ordered two 10-milliliter units of the chemical and paid with bitcoin. The investigation revealed that after the units were not sent, Jason contacted the seller, revealing his gruesome intentions:

” I plan to use it soon after I receive it”.

In the following month, Siesser ordered three 10-milliliter doses of the deadly chemical and paid again with the same cryptocurrency. The purchase was for $150. Some estimations informed that he could have killed 300 people if he used it successfully.

The Reason Behind the Purchase

The investigation revealed that Siesser suffered from severe heartache, anger, and resentment over a recent breakup. The Justice Department stated in a press release that Siesser was filled with ”desire for the person who caused the heartache to die”.

Fortunately, law enforcement officials managed to track Jason’s criminal intentions. Controlled delivery of a package that contained an inert substance was sent to his home on August 23rd, 2018.

”Siesser believed the package contained the chemical weapon he had ordered, signed for the package and took it inside the residence,” the Justice Department reported.

During the search of Sissier’s home, the officers also found other toxic elements such as cardium arsenide, cadmium metal, and a sizeable amount of hydrochloric acid.

Jason Siesser received 12 years in prison on Tuesday after pleading guilty.
