Mr. Goxx Will Be Missed

The rodent gained a heavy amount of internet fame in recent days given his abilities to potentially outtrade human investors utilizing a special trading cage. Mr. Goxx has accumulated more than 18,000 followers on social media given his “abilities” to decide what digital assets should be bought or sold.

The little hamster’s owners announced the news with a heavy heart on Twitter, stating:

You proved to us that the internet doesn’t necessarily have to be a toxic wasteland. We are absolutely overwhelmed with the uncountable and touching condolences which we’ve received across all channels. What we personally learned from this project has little to do with crypto.

They also stated that while they always feared this day would come, they were surprised that it occurred so suddenly and without warning.

Mr. Goxx is named after the infamous cryptocurrency exchange in Japan that in 2014, saw more than $400 million in bitcoin units practically disappear overnight. Not long ago, a trustee involved with the exchange announced the approval of a new repayment system that would see all original traders who were affected by the theft slowly get their money back. At the time of writing, the details of the repayment plan have not been announced yet.

The financial career of Mr. Goxx came about through an experiment from two German entrepreneurs who sought to predict the randomness of the digital currency trading space. They set the little hamster up in a specially designed cage that featured a trading office which was watched by thousands of traders on social media. Trading and selling decisions were made by Mr. Goxx running on what his owners called the “intention wheel,” in which a select cryptocurrency was chosen.

He would then run through a “sell” or “trade” tunnel that would tell investors watching whether it was time to purchase or do away with the asset in question. At the time of his passing, the hamster’s portfolio was up just shy of 20 percent, and he had made approximately 98 euros in profit.

What Did This Project Accomplish?

The goal behind the project was to try and steer traders in the right direction given that many people trading in the crypto space do so without performing adequate research. The owners explained:

It seems like most people from our generation see no other chance than throwing a lot of their savings on the crypto market without having a clue what’s going on there. We were joking about whether [the] hamster would be able to make smarter investment decisions than we humans do.

Presently, there are no plans for a successor.
