Gene Simmons Is the Latest Fan of Dogecoin
Over the past week, Dogecoin has been on something of a roll. The currency – which initially started out as a joke asset and can be identified by the adorable little Shiba Inu dog that serves as its mascot – has surged nearly 400 percent over the past few days following Redditors getting online to talk about how amazing it is. This occurred at around the same time that Robinhood – a popular trading app – was stopping all trades for GameStop shares, BTC and Dogecoin, to name a few.
Putting this aside, however, Dogecoin has also been the object of affection of Elon Musk, the South African entrepreneur behind large companies such as Tesla and SpaceX. In the past, Musk has referred to Dogecoin as the “people’s coin,” and has joked that it could potentially serve as the currency of the future. There was also a large rumor about two years ago that Musk would eventually serve as the CEO of Dogecoin, though these rumors didn’t lead to much.
Still, the currency has a way of attracting celebrity attention, the latest stemming from Simmons who has since retired from his days of donning heavy makeup and strumming bass guitar strings. He’s now looking to get more involved in crypto, and he’s taken to social media to express some positive feedback regarding Dogecoin.
On Twitter, Simmons issued the following message:
I bought even more Dogecoin. Why? Because I believe it will go up. But that’s just me.
He later added a follow-up message that included a photo of himself and Musk. The caption accompanying the photo simply read:
God of Dogecoin.
Simmons has been a major cryptocurrency fan since last September. During that time, Gemini Exchange co-founder Cameron Winklevoss issued a tweet explaining the many benefits of bitcoin. He also told his followers that they would be smart to buy up as many units as they could during before it surged any higher. Surprisingly, Simmons issued a response that simply read:
I will. I am.
Additional Currencies Have Caught His Attention
While he appears to be a Dogecoin fan, Simmons has also made it clear that he’s purchased several units of additional currencies, such as Ripple’s XRP. It’s a strange move considering the asset is under heavy legal scrutiny by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), but this doesn’t seem to bother the rock star in the slightest. He writes:
Not recommending any of these to anyone, but yes. I also bought Dogecoin, XRP and others. Make of it what you will.
