Matt Damon Just Can’t Catch a Break
Not long ago, a commercial was featured on television that included the presence of Matt Damon, who is known for his work on films such as “Good Will Hunting” and “The Martian.” The commercial showed many heroic acts taking place throughout history, such as the moon landing.
Damon commented that “fortune favors the brave,” which seemed to rub a lot of people the wrong way when “Crypto.com” showed up at the end of the ad. It was as if they were being told that by not investing in crypto, they were potentially not living lives of bravery. This may not be what the commercial intended to portray, but it was what people seemed to be experiencing in their minds.
Now, “South Park” is taking jabs at Damon and the commercial he appeared in. In its 25th season, the show featured an episode called “Pajama Day” in which main character Cartman – often seen wearing a red jacket – tries to rile up his class by talking about crypto and the ad he saw.
Cartman says to his fellow students:
What does Matt Damon say in the bitcoin commercial? Fortune favors the brave!
The goal is to try and get his classroom to fight a recent decision made by PJ, his school’s principal. Another character named Clyde says to Cartman:
My dad said he listened to Matt Damon and lost all his money.
Cartman then responds with:
Yes, everyone did, but they were brave in doing so!
The trend of celebrities getting involved in the crypto space appears to be growing over the past few months, though judging from people’s reactions, it seems most diehard traders would prefer known individuals keep their distance and leave their influence at home. Another celebrity that’s taking a lot of flak for her push of crypto is Oscar-winner Reese Witherspoon, who recently issued a tweet discussing the future and how everyone is slated to have a digital personality of some sort.
The idea was that with everything being digital, currencies like bitcoin would likely become the norm. This got on a lot of people’s nerves. One user mentioned on Twitter:
Reese Witherspoon becoming a crypto bro was not on my 2022 bingo card.
People Are Mad at Reese
Writer Zack Davisson explained:
A weird thing about Reese Witherspoon and Matt Damon is realizing that no matter how much money and fame you have, you will always take another paycheck. Neither of them NEEDS to advertise crypto, but they can’t say no to the check unless you are Tom from Myspace.
