Independent US presidential candidate Robert Kennedy Jr spoke at the BTC 2024 conference, showing his support for the largest cryptocurrency. This ties into the crypto narrative taking center stage in the build-up to this year’s presidential election.
“I am a huge supporter of Bitcoin. I have most of my wealth in Bitcoin. I am fully committed,” said RFK Jr in his speech. Donald Trump, the Republican candidate for this year’s election, has also shown tremendous support for the asset. He is the first mainstream candidate to accept donations in Bitcoin. Trump has also stated that he would be the crypto president if elected this year.
RFK Jr. mentioned his plans to make Bitcoin part of the US Treasury, moving the 204,000 bitcoin held by the US Department of Justice and US Marshalls to the reserve. He intends to make Bitcoin a ‘strategic asset.’ He added, “I will sign an executive order directing the US Treasury to purchase 550 Bitcoin daily until the US has built a reserve of at least 4,000,000 Bitcoins and a position of dominance that no other country will be able to usurp.”
These developments would be made concrete on the first day of RFK Jr’s presidency if he is elected. Others include ordering the Internal Revenue System (IRS) to make bitcoin transactions exchanging the asset into cash non-reportable and non-taxable. Furthermore, he would sign an order to allow exchanging bitcoin for real estate.
He further called the Federal Reserve out in a panel hosted by TheStreet during BTC 2024. He highlighted how the reserve favors bankers and not common people. “The relationship between Congress and the Fed is both parasitical to our country, and it’s a symbiotic relationship. The Fed is not a public institution … The decision-makers are appointed by the banking industry.”
