DAIA Launches #COVIDathon

An organization of more than 50 companies, nonprofits, and labs, is launching the very first COVIDathon. The Decentralized Artificial Intelligence Alliance (DAIA), as the organization is called, will launch the hackathon with a mission to develop and to launch open-source code and tools which are supported and guided by medical, AI, and blockchain experts and principles.

The main idea is to help reduce the risk of current and future infectious outbreaks, as well as to cope with the existing COVID-19 pandemic.

The initiative is powered by DAIA, but it is also coordinated with SingularityNET and Ocean Protocol – a decentralized substrate for the data economy.

Speaking on the matter was the Chairman of DAIA, and CEO of SingularityNET, Ben Goertzel. The AI pioneer said:

“It is imperative for those with AI expertise to help with the COVID-19 pandemic. […] From aiding with biomedicine and epidemiology to ensuring that data privacy is respected as the pandemic is tracked and studied, to creating democratically-evolving tools for sharing information and helping people cope – the number of ways AI can support in this unprecedented situation is vast.”

Different Fields Of Expertise

According to the press release shared with CryptoPotato, the hackathon features four different tracks, including:

  • Data Privacy and Sovereignty
  • Medicine and Epidemiology
  • Open Innovation
  • Information and Coping Tools

It’s worth noting that the pandemic continues to take its toll on the world. While the cases from China have been handled and the virus no longer appears to be present there, Western Europe and the United States are currently recording thousands of new cases every single day.

The most affected countries include the United States with 75,069 cases, Italy with 74,386 instances, Spain with 56,197, Germany with 43,646, and so forth. The total deaths so far have increased to 22,340, representing about 16% of the closed cases.
