U.S.-based aircraft maker – Gulfstream Aerospace – is all set to take the competition higher with its rival Bombardier. On Monday, October 21, Gulfstream unveiled its long-range luxurious G700 aircraft, an upgrade to its previous G650. Gulfstream unveiled this aircraft at the National Business Aviation Association’s (NBAA) annual corporate aircraft show in Las Vegas.

With the Gulfstream G650, the company enjoyed its dominant position for some time in the business jets segment, until Bombardier Global 7500 launched this year. In a move to reclaim its lost position, Gulfstream has unveiled the new upgrade.

The Gulfstream G700 is an expensive business jet with a price tag of whopping $75 million. The company said that the G700 will be powered by Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (RR.L) Pearl 700 engines with deliveries expected by around 2022. Besides, the company says that the G700 will have the most spacious and comfortable cabin space.

“The tallest, widest, longest cabin in business aviation,” said Gulfstream President Mark Burns while unveiling the beast. Further, the G700 can also fly 7,500 nautical miles at Mach 0.85 speeds. At 109 feet, 10 inches, the Gulfstream G700 is 10 feet longer than its predecessor but a foot shorter than Bombardier’s Global 7500.

As per the mock-up of the plane, the G700 seats 19 passengers along with a six-place dining or conference room. Just like the Global 7500, the G700 will also have a master bedroom suite along with a spa shower. In addition to the dining area, the cabin will be further divided into five living areas.

Burns also assured that the G700 will have the lowest cabin altitude of fewer than 4000 feet at the most cruising altitudes.

Gulfstream G700 Starts Getting Bookings

This seems to be the perfect announcement time for the Gulfstream G700 as the rival Bombardier Global 7500 is already booked out till 2021. Gulfstream has already secured 10 orders for its G700 from Qatar Airways, for its charter service Qatar Executive. Flexjet also has an unspecified order for the G700.

Gulfstream’s parent company General Dynamics is confident that the G700 will keep the legacy of its predecessor G650 by maintaining its core value propositions of luxury, spacious cabin, longest no-stop flying range and highest speed among any nonmilitary aircraft.

After the launch of G650 in 2012, the aircraft dominated the luxury airplane segment for seven years. However, Bombardier’s Global 7500 posed a formidable challenge by leveling up the game.
