General Motors has introduced the new versions of its best-selling models the Chevrolet Tahoe and the Suburban SUVs. Sources indicate that the new versions of the popular models are larger than previous ones with a whole lot of technology and new features that combine both safety and comfort. Industry pundits have indicated that the profits made from the sales of these two models will propel the automaker to complete the self-driving cars and electric vehicles which include the 20 planned to be rolled out by 2023.

Though this event could be expected to have a serious impact on the price of GM stock. However, in reality, the stock hasn’t reacted. At the close, it was trading even with a 0.76% loss, at $35.11. As for the pre-market, it has a small plus of 0.31%. As for a 12-month period, GM has experienced very different trends with a lot of ups and downs. Though a year ago, it was trading at the same level as today, there were several times when its price was around $40 and $33.

The 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban share similarities in the design styles and features from the new Chevrolet Silverado which include new LED lights and large grilles that have straight horizontal bars immediately behind the Chevy logo. Sources further indicate that both models have more space than the previous versions with a 66% increase in cargo space behind the third row for the Tahoe and 19% increased space just after the first row for the Suburban.

Both cars are going to arrive at showrooms hopefully by the middle of next year and will be available in six different variants which include an off-road luxury model. The Tahoe is expected to cost between $50,000 to $69,500 and the Suburban is also expected to cost around $53,000 to $72,500. Both cars are also believed to come with three different engine options which include a 6.2 liter v-8 with 420 horsepower, 5.3 liters V-8 with 355 horsepower plus a 3.0-liter diesel engine with 277 horsepower and a 460 lb-ft of torque that just made a showing with the Chevrolet Silverado. It is also important to note that all the engines have a common 10-speed transmission.

In terms of technology, the vehicles will have 10-inch center infotainment screens linked to the cars’ central infotainment system with optional 15-inch screens as well for the front seats. The rear seats will also have 12-inch touch screens for infotainment as well. All the screens in the cars are a touchscreen.

The new SUVs have many at the automaker excited at the prospects of being able to bring the new variants to the market place. Sources indicate that Tim Herrick who is the Vice-President of Global Product programs at General Motors said at the introduction earlier this week:

“On-road and -off, the all-new Suburban and Tahoe play much bigger but actually drive much smaller than before.”

General Motors has also introduced new safety features which include automatic emergency braking systems and an optional HD surround view with an alert system behind for pedestrians when the vehicles are reversing.

The high tech part of the vehicles is also slightly better than planned as the data processing abilities are much higher than normal. Although both cars don’t have independent suspension as do most of the General Motors SUVs ( Ford’s expedition does), both cars are quite nifty on the road and offer the best bang for the buck.
