One of the most famous Artificial Intelligence-powered chatbots ChatGPT has been updated with a new feature that allows it to access information from online sources and communicate with third-party websites through new plugins.
The plugin feature is presently restrained in the alpha phase and will be offered to a smaller group of users before introducing to the larger public. Users can register themselves on the waitlist to avail of the new feature on ChatGPT Plus, OpenAI announced on March 23rd.
Previously, there were only eleven plugins offered. These plugins spanned over various ranges and allowed customers to verify the score of a live sporting event and book an International flight at the same time. The firm also said that it is now steadily rolling out plugins to evaluate its real-world use cases.
The best part about plugins is that these are tools curated for language models with security as a core virtue, and helps ChatGPT examine updated information, run calculations and leverage third-party use cases, according to OpenAI. There is a range of websites that are backed by the new plugins, for example, eCommerce websites like Shopify, Klarna, and Instacart. There are several other travel search engines like Expedia and Kayak which utilize this feature too.
The plugins also comprise the math computer Wolfram, for conducting calculations and the business messaging application Slack. Some other applications include FiscalNote, Milo Family Al, OpenTable, Shop, Speak, and Zapier.
ChatGPT leverages the Bing API to look for data with the text-based internet browser to guide through websites and results. It is also capable of manufacturing information across several sources to provide some structured support for its response. ChatGPT can also, moreover, cite the source when responding.
OpenAI has also disclosed that the plug-in options were introduced after looking at the increased demand of their customers after ChatGPT was initially introduced on 30th November.
Michael Hashimoto, the founder of Software company HashiCorp and one of the first users of ChatGPT plugin API, said in a Twitter post that it is one of the most ‘impressive computer applications’ used by him.
A few weeks ago, OpenAI launched the most recent version of the AI Chatbot called ChatGPT-4. As of now, the new model has been able to conveniently pass all the high school and law school exams with a 90th percentile.
Moreover, for the SAT Evidence-Based Reading & Writing and SAT Math exams taken by US high schools to assess their college readiness, GPT -4 was able to pass all of them with a staggering percentile of 93 and 89 respectively.
