A movie production company, the Optimist, is looking to interview Vitalik Buterin and produce a feature-length documentary on Ethereum. The documentary titled, ‘Ethereum: The Infinite Garden’ aims to detail the challenges and rewards associated with building a new world. It is the first of its kind and producers are looking to crowdfund it by allowing members of the community to donate towards the project.
The documentary will require interviews with those involved in the development of the Ethereum Virtual machine and network. Apart from Buterin, the Executive Director of the Ethereum Foundation, Aya Miyaguchi, and many other innovative members of the Ethereum community will also be interviewed.
While Carrie Weprin will be the producer for the project, Zach Ingrasci and Chris Temple will co-direct. Weprin and Ingrasci claim they have been following the cryptocurrency ecosystem before this project came up but conclude that the depth of the interviews they have conducted for the documentary has turned them into Ethereum fans in particular.
The fund-raiser for the movie documentary project started on Mirror on the 14th of July and will end today, 16th July 2021. The target of the funding drive was to raise 750 ETH. As of the time of writing, 487.29 ETH had been raised with 487 backers.
Speaking about the approach to fundraising, Ingrasci said, “I think it’s so exciting that a DAO (decentralized autonomous organization) could be our executive producer.” The producers felt that crypto crowdfunding seemed like the most original way to raise funds for the project. This warranted involving the community quite early in the project. This would allow the community to determine the outcome of the project from right early in its development.
The movie producers partnered with NFT creator pplpleasr to create a series of NFTs related to the movie. Each NFT purchased is associated with a pre-specified level of involvement in the film project and rewards.
Speaking on behalf of the production team, Weprin said the team is looking to distribute the documentary on major streaming platforms, and also hopes to secure a spot in a major film festival in 2023.
