Tales of Tech Embrace by Mercedes-Benz

Mercedes-Benz is a german global automobile marque and a division of Daimler AG. Mercedes-Benz is known for its luxury vehicles, vans, trucks, buses, coaches, and ambulances. The headquarters is in Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg. The name first appeared in 1926 under Daimler-Benz. In 2018, Mercedes-Benz was the largest seller of premium vehicles in the world, having sold 2.31 million passenger cars. The company is renowned to be a frontrunner in technological innovations since it was founded.

In its drive to embrace emerging technologies, Mercedes-Benz launched a pilot project that utilizes blockchain technology to track CO2 emissions. The initiative is the company’s attempt to promote environmental sustainability across its extensive supply chain. The project was intended to produce carbon-neutral cars in the next 20 years. Over the years, Mercedes-Benz has introduced technologies ranging from automatic comfort control, intelligent drive, and further technologies in the pipeline.

The partnership as announced by Daimler A.G Chairman, Ola Kallenius said:

“The upshot is a software-centric computing architecture based on Nvidia’s Drive AGX Orin computer system-on-a-chip. The underlying architecture will be standard in Mercedes’ next generation of vehicles, starting sometime toward the end of 2024”.

Potential Mercedes-Benz and Nvidia Partnership

Nvidia’s Orin System on a Chip is built on an advanced supercomputing architecture. According to an exposition on Techcrunch, the Nvidia Drive platform will include a full software stack designed for automated driving AI applications. The two companies will jointly develop the AI and automated vehicle applications that include Level 2 and Level 3 driver assistance functions, as well as automated parking functions up to Level 4.

The software once fully integrated will power the future generation of Mercedes-Benz vehicles with a remote, or over the air updates that will promote self-driving capabilities. In addition, it will usher in a software-based app system that would let customers purchase and add capabilities, software applications, and subscription services through over-the-air software updates during the life of the car. All these improved value additions will help in driving the company’s revenue streams.

Toward Well-Defined Future

Technology is indeed changing our lives with the dynamic revamping of existing technologies. With the positioning of tech-based companies, future interactions with machines will be well defined with the goal of personalizing the human experience.

The beauty of the Mercedes-Benz offering is that it will also help make the earth safer as environmental sustainability remains the foundational consideration upon which new innovations are modeled. In all, the hope for the future with tech is such that the world awaits.
