An 81 Pounds Box of Good Taste
Shelby lives in Detroit, Michigan and she was participating in Reddit Gifts since 2013, just like Bill Gates did. This year, she and her husband were shocked to see that the present sent to them by Secret Santa was an 81 pounds box with a mark #95 on it. This is because Bill knew that Shelby was participating in the Reddit exchanges for 95th time.
Shelby and her husband started suspecting that the package is unusual when received a notification that it was shipped in one day from Washington. The package was going through eight shipment zones.
“I got the alert that it was shipping from Washington, and I said to my husband, ‘Maybe this from Bill Gates? …When I looked in the next morning and saw that it was 81 pounds, I thought, ‘Maybe this is from Bill Gates”
According to the Reddit post, when Shelby got to the FedEx post to receive a huge box, the workers were shouting congrats:
“You’re the Bill Gates package!”
When Shelby opened the box, she noticed a ton of sophisticated presents drowned in Christmas lights. Bill seems to love the Oreo cookies because he sent seven different large packs of Oreos together with plenty of books, large LEGO Hogwarts castle, Harry Potter magic hat, rare first edition playing cards, and many other things.
The Book is the Best Present?
The package included a limited, large format luxury edition of The Great Gatsby manuscript.
Shelby thinks that this present is her second favorite one:
“It’s unique because it’s a manuscript book, so inside the pages are scans of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s actual handwriting and all of his notes when he was making this book. This year has been a complete rollercoaster of emotions for me; in March, I lost my mother completely unexpectedly only 10 days before my destination wedding. It has been hard to drum up holiday spirit this year, and this has been a zap taser of Christmas cheer”
In a personal note written by Gates, he sends his condolences regarding her mom’s death:
“I know no gift will ever make up for losing someone so important to you. I hope you and your family find your ‘new normal’ this holiday season.”
Gates didn’t chat with the girl before sending out the gifts. From the Questionnaire, he realized that Shelby’s mother died because of heart issues in 2019. This made the year kind of difficult for the girl and her husband. In her mother’s honor, Gates made a significant donation to the American Heart Association. Shelby was amazed to acknowledge such news.
