The certification program brings new features and capabilities in this world where almost everything is connected right from the airports, stadiums, and industrial parks. Thus, the WiFi 6 certification aims to cater to the needs of millions of devices interconnected across the globe. Edgar Figueroa, president and CEO of the Wi-Fi Alliance said:
“Wi-Fi Certified 6 is ushering in a new era of wifi, building on wifi’s core characteristics to provide better performance in every environment for users, greater network capacity for service providers to improve coverage for their customers, and new opportunities for advanced applications.”
With the WiFi 6 introduction, the theoretical download speeds of WiFi will increase by 4 times in comparison to the existing WiFi 5. Note that the theoretical speeds will surge to 10Gbps, however, in the real world they would be somewhat lesser.
The most important thing with WiFi 6 is that it can deliver massive data at once thereby significantly boosting your usage speeds. These gains will be more prominent on clouded network wherein several thousand devices are connected at a time. Kevin Robinson, marketing leader for the Wi-Fi Alliance said: “The home scenario today looks like the dense deployment of yesterday”.
Besides, there is a number of other technical enhancements which the WiFi 6 will bring to the table which includes the newer WPA3 security protocol. Also, WiFi 6 is designed to work smoothly in the range between 1GHz to 6GHz. It another important feature TWT (target wake time) helps to improve the battery life in WiFi as well as IoT devices.
The Samsung Galaxy S10 is going to be the first flagship handset to support WiFi 6. On the other hand, Apple‘s recently announced iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max will support WiFi 6.
Leaders of global tech corporations have expressed their optimism over the launch of this WiFi 6 certification program saying that it is a welcome move and much-required for the growth of the global tech industry.
