Sex Toys Industry Significantly Evolved during 2019
The company has introduced its products to women at the beginning of 2019. But the Consumer Technology Association has revoked the award from the tech startup called Lora DiCarlo. They thought that it is not an innovation in the pleasure industry, but just a new generation of vibrators.
However, the sales stats show that women wish to try out the product. During the first 36 hours of sales, the company made $1,5 million, and the total sum of orders is $3 million. This is partially due to the noise caused by CTA’s decision. Worth mentioning that they issued the apologies and gave the award back to the startup in May 2019.
The technology used for the devices is based on micro-robotics. The devices called Ose, Onda and Baci can deliver happiness in several different modes. The products are made of materials that imitate human touch, so that it feels like real skin or lips, etc. The minimalistic design and form factor allow carrying the thing everywhere without someone noticing.
Lora DiCarlo Sex Toys Receive Awards No Matter What
The Consumer Technology Association which stands behind the CES has decided that this year, sex toys can receive their desired awards. The CTA announced in July that they will put the sex toys to the health and wellness categories. Per Lora Haddock, CEO DiCarlo, the controversial product is nothing bad as it is improving the nation’s most valuable asset – women’s good health. She noted:
“Following last year’s incident having the Innovation Award rescinded and reinstated for Osé, we became change agents, initiating a critical public conversation about gender equity and creating a safer and more inclusive environment for all CES attendees.
After learning more about our products and our mission, people have come to realize that sexual wellness is an important part of overall well-being. This year, we are at CES to continue to reshape how people think about sex tech. It’s not about the technology. Not about the orgasm. It is about how tech-enhanced experiences can lead to a greater sense of wellness, including improved sleep, reduced stress, and better mood.”
Several firms were participating in the show, each one presenting their similar products. However, the CTA had no problems with them in the past, including the sex toys of similar niche dedicated to men. Per the letter sent by the CTA to CEO Lora Haddock:
“[The products] in their sole discretion to be immoral, obscene, indecent, profane or not in keeping with the CTA’s image will be disqualified. CTA reserves the right in its sole discretion to disqualify any entry at any time which, in CTA’s opinion, endangers the safety or well being of any person, or fails to comply with these Official Rules. CTA decisions are final and binding”
At the same time, this year the CTA has changed their opinions. The pleasure industry and technological innovations unite thanks to the efforts of people like Lora. Until women don’t kill others with the devices, there are no objective reasons not to invent, promote or buy them.
