Das Jahr 2024 war bislang ein grosses Jahr für Gold. Der Wert des Edelmetalls hat alle zu Jahresbeginn gehegten Erwartungen übertroffen. So erreichte der Goldpreis in der vergangenen Woche einen neuen Höchststand. Aktuell notiert eine Unze Gold in der Schweiz auf 2’129,62 CHF, das ist praktisch ein Höchststand.

Goldpreis im Aufwind: Diese Faktoren treiben den Wert des Edelmetalls

Gold gilt als klassisches Mittel zur Absicherung gegen Inflation. Steigt die Inflation, verliert das Papiergeld an Wert, während Gold als physisches Gut seinen Wert behält oder sogar an Wert gewinnt. Besonders in Zeiten, in denen die Zentralbanken grosse Mengen an Geld in Umlauf bringen, sehen Anleger in Gold eine Möglichkeit, ihre Kaufkraft zu schützen. Zudem führt die Abwertung von Währungen wie dem US-Dollar oft dazu, dass Gold, das in Dollar gehandelt wird, attraktiver für internationale Käufer wird.

2. Wirtschaftliche Unsicherheit und Rezessionsängste

Wirtschaftliche Unsicherheiten, wie sie beispielsweise durch globale Finanzkrisen, Rezessionen oder Handelskriege entstehen, treiben Anleger in sichere Anlagen wie Gold. Wenn das Vertrauen in die Finanzmärkte schwindet, suchen Investoren nach stabilen Alternativen. Gold bietet hier eine gewisse Sicherheit, da es unabhängig von den wirtschaftlichen Rahmenbedingungen als wertvoll angesehen wird.

3. Geopolitische Spannungen

Konflikte zwischen Ländern, wie etwa Krieg, politische Instabilität oder diplomatische Spannungen, führen häufig zu einem Anstieg des Goldpreises. In unsicheren Zeiten, in denen die Zukunft ungewiss ist, ziehen es viele vor, ihr Geld in sichere Anlagen wie Gold zu investieren. Gold wird in diesen Situationen als stabiler Wert angesehen, der unabhängig von politischen Entwicklungen seinen Wert behält.

4. Nachfrage von Zentralbanken

Zentralbanken weltweit halten einen Teil ihrer Währungsreserven in Gold. Wenn Zentralbanken beginnen, ihre Goldbestände aufzustocken, kann dies den Goldpreis nach oben treiben. Besonders in Schwellenländern, die ihre Währungen stabilisieren oder sich von der Abhängigkeit vom US-Dollar lösen wollen, steigt die Nachfrage nach Gold. Diese Nachfrage schafft zusätzlichen Druck auf den Markt, was zu steigenden Preisen führt.

5. Angebotsengpässe

Das Angebot an Gold ist begrenzt, und die Förderung ist sowohl kosten- als auch zeitintensiv. In Phasen, in denen die Goldproduktion durch geopolitische Unruhen, Umweltkatastrophen oder Regulierungen eingeschränkt ist, kann dies zu einem Rückgang des Angebots führen. Bei gleichbleibender oder steigender Nachfrage führt dies unweigerlich zu höheren Preisen.

6. Technologische Entwicklungen und industrielle Nachfrage

Auch die Nachfrage aus der Industrie spielt eine Rolle beim Goldpreis. Gold wird in vielen technologischen Anwendungen verwendet, insbesondere in der Elektronikbranche, aber auch in der Medizintechnik. Steigt die industrielle Nachfrage, kann dies den Preis zusätzlich nach oben treiben. Zudem können technologische Fortschritte in der Gewinnung und Verarbeitung von Gold den Markt beeinflussen.

7. Spekulation und Marktstimmung

Nicht zuletzt spielt die spekulative Komponente eine Rolle. Anleger, die auf steigende Goldpreise setzen, können durch ihre Investitionen den Preis beeinflussen. Wenn sich eine positive Marktstimmung entwickelt und viele Investoren auf Gold setzen, kann dies eine selbstverstärkende Wirkung haben, die den Preis weiter in die Höhe treibt.

Fazit

Der Goldpreis wird von einer Vielzahl von Faktoren beeinflusst, die in ihrer Wirkung kumulativ oder auch isoliert auftreten können. Inflation, wirtschaftliche Unsicherheit, geopolitische Spannungen, Zentralbankpolitik, Angebotsverknappungen, technologische Entwicklungen und Spekulation sind die Haupttreiber für die Entwicklung des Goldpreises. In Zeiten globaler Unsicherheiten ist es daher wenig verwunderlich, dass Gold als sichere Anlage oft gefragt ist und seinen Preis entsprechend anpasst. Anleger sollten jedoch stets die Vielzahl dieser Faktoren im Blick behalten, um fundierte Entscheidungen zu treffen.

This Year’s Theme: “On the Move”

Throughout history, people have left their homes for a variety of reasons and have found themselves in faraway places. This has led to encounters with foreign lands, their inhabitants, their customs, their flora and fauna. Cultural heritage collections are full of artifacts resulting from and bearing witness to those people “on the move”: archival records, travel reports, audiovisual documents, object collections, oral histories etc. These artifacts weave an invisible web between people and places, between events and stories being told about them, between heritage collections and scholars, and between the people of every generation making sense of them – through artistic creation, through the (de-)construction of collective memories, or by exploiting them in the pursuit of political or economic interests.

The thematic focus is intended as a source of inspiration; hackathon participants are free to work on other topics related to cultural heritage.

Workshop GLAM & Digital Humanities (Thursday Afternoon)

The Swiss network for the digital humanities DARIAH-CH is setting up a GLAM Working Group. The new working group’s mission is to strengthen the cooperation between the Heritage Sector, the Cultural Sector, Public Administration, and the Digital Humanities in the area of data and data infrastructures.

If you are a researcher, work in the cultural heritage field, or are otherwise interested in the topic, you are welcome to join us for this workshop where we will start devising the action plan of this working group.

Open GLAM Night (Thursday Evening)

Celebrate with us the Open GLAM Night at Lucerne Neubad with contributions from Mexican artists, a participatory performance of the Swiss Afro-Cuban artist Ivonne Gonzalez, and a kaleidoscope of “remarkable” Lucernese people.

The first part of the event will be live-streamed to one of the cinemas of the Complejo Cultural of the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (BUAP), our Mexican partner organization.

The event is open to the public at large. Admission is free. Consumption at Neubad is at participants’ own expense. No registration is required if you plan to attend only this public event.

Hackathon Program (Friday & Saturday)

The hackathon takes place from Friday morning to Saturday evening at Moderne Bar & Karussell/ZHB Luzern. We will meet on Friday morning in the Moderne Bar & Karussell (Pilatusstrasse 21).
